The next Xbox Developer Direct event is set to broadcast on January 23, featuring a number of highly anticipated titles such as Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight as well as a “brand-new game” teased by Microsoft. The event will take place on Jan 23 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM UK and is expected to stream in all the popular platforms such as YouTube, Twitch among others.
“We’ll visit Compulsion Games in Montreal, Canada to learn more about South of Midnight, head to Montpellier, France to see Sandfall Interactive for a look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, stop by the legendary id Studios in Richardson, Texas to check in on Doom: The Dark Ages, and visit a surprise location to see another studio’s brand new game,” Microsoft stated.
And while the publisher did not reveal anything more about the upcoming unannounced game, we’ll know all of it’s details during the event for sure.
Among the titles revealed so far, Doom: The Dark Ages is definitely the most anticipated one which is the eighth main entry in the Doom franchise and also the third installment of the modern series, following Doom Eternal. From a narrative standpoint, the game serves as a prequel to 2016’s Doom and is currently scheduled to be released for Playstation 5, Microsoft Windows and the Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
Visual enthusiasts are also looking forward to Doom: The Dark Ages for it’s possible implementation of Ray Tracing by the id Tech engine which is powering the game. The id Tech engine was once one of the most influential game engines and one of the leading graphical powerhouses in the Videogame industry and the upcoming title is sure to showcase all of it’s latest visual features and improvements.
South of Midnight is an upcoming action adventure title developed by Compulsion Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. Set in an alternate reality which is also based on a fictionalized American Deep South, the game is expected to release at some point in 2025.
