Valve ToS change leaves users alarmed about game ownership

From time to time, since the inception of digital platforms, ownership of digital content has become something murky. The current Valve ToS change makes matters worse by delivering a fatal blow towards consumer trust and the whole landscape of digital transactions. We at Infinite Start are concerned about such developments.

Valve ToS change itself

From the inception of the platform, Valve’s ToS have been rather murky, usually complicated to follow by those who are not legally inclined, and usually, that’s how many ToS agreements work. After all, the average consumer isn’t particularly aware of their own consumer rights, however, its of utmost importance to be aware of them to prevent undesired advances.

It is now that Valve has to explicitly announce that in reality, an users does not really own a game, but rather a license to it that can be revoked at any time. This has been a thing since the older days, but now they need to spill the ugly truth. Unfortunately, not many will pay attention to such change and will agree with such moves by clicking the “Accept” button.

It truly saddens a big chunk of the community to see their favorite service fall down into such a dark pit. Eroding the trust of your customers rarely comes with any benefit, and in fact, it can cause the downfall of something that was thought to be too big to fall.

What users can do about this Valve ToS change

If there’s a will, there’s a way, some users have opted for alternatives where they can own their digital purchases. There’s many legitimate services that actually offers the user the opportunity to own their digital games via allowing them to have the installer without the need of a middleman.

One can expect that, by guiding users towards such alternatives Valve might reconsider their actions in case they wish to keep being the biggest market on the PC gaming sphere. We as users should push for a better future of the platform, so Steam can keep being the home of those who wish to enjoy PC gaming at its full potential. We at Infinite Start wish to help our users be aware of what happens on the scene.
