The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will Require PSN Account on PC, Pre-Orders are Live

Sony has confirmed that the upcoming PC version of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will require a Playstation Network account in order to play the game. As spotted in the game’s official Steam page, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will require players to link their PSN account with the game’s Steam or Epic Games Store accounts in order to play.

Also, pre-orders for the game have officially gone live on both Steam and EGS so if you want to play Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed Single player action adventure title, now is your chance to get it.

Prior to this official confirmation, one of the biggest questions among gamers was whether or not the game will require the mandatory Playstation Network account linking and what makes this particularly controversial is the fact that this could render the game completely unavailable for lots of gamers as there are over 100 countries where Sony does not operate PlayStation accounts at all. So any player from those countries will simply not be able to buy the game on Steam, in any shape of form. The PSN is currently available in only 73 countries, which leaves the majority of the World out of options for playing The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered PC.

And because of this, several of Sony’s first-party releases on the PC platform like last year’s God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn Remake both attracted lots of criticism for the mandatory PSN account linking. Since then this was a lingering question for all Playstation releases on PC as many players feel that they shouldn’t have to connect any third-party accounts for a game purchased on an entirely different platform, especially if the game’s primarily a single player experience like the Last of Us Part 2.

Several of Sony’s recent PC releases have also suffered negative reviews as a result of the mandatory PSN requirement for example the PC version of God of War Ragnarok was met with mixed user review ratings on Steam and most of it was centered around the game’s PSN account linking. 2024’s Helldivers 2 had received a review-bomb campaign for the exact similar reasons.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is due out for PC on April 3.
