Sony Working to Address Performance Issues with PS5 Pro

Sony is reportedly making strides to resolve performance issues affecting the PS5 Pro, particularly with its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. These issues have apparently affected titles such as Silent Hill 2 Remake and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor since the console’s launch on November 7, 2024.

Despite its unresolved issues, the PS5 Pro, which boasts a 45% faster GPU than the standard PS5 and supports higher resolutions and frame rates, has reportedly sold very well even with its $700 price tag. However, its lack of a built-in disc drive has raised concerns among gamers, even more so with the shortages of external disc drives due to its limited supply.

The primary concern centers on the PSSR technology, which has caused graphical inconsistencies in certain games. A developer working on Truck Driver: The American Dream revealed that Sony has been releasing updated versions of PSSR to address these issues. Although it’s unclear if these updates will fully resolve the problems across all affected titles, the news suggests Sony is actively collaborating with third-party developers to enhance the gameplay experience.

Analysts, such as Circana’s Mat Piscatella, note that the PS5 Pro’s sales have mirrored the success of the PS4 Pro, despite its challenges. With improvements to PSSR and better availability of disc drives on the horizon, Sony appears committed to enhancing the PS5 Pro’s appeal and performance for its growing user base.

This isn’t the first time fans have heard of a critical issue with one of Sony’s consoles, but each time, Sony doesn’t fail to swiftly resolve the issue and make it a long-forgotten topic. That said, with the PS5 Pro matching the success rate of its predecessor PS4 Pro even with its price tag, one could conclude that the console is clearly a groundbreaking masterpiece by Sony which, once again, has made PlayStation a step ahead of Xbox.
