Smite 2 Free-to-Play Beta Launch Date and New Character Revealed

Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 hit MOBA, is gearing up for a fresh chapter with its free-to-play open beta, set to launch on January 14, 2025. Built using the power of Unreal Engine 5, the game aims to deliver a revamped experience packed with new modes, Gods, features, and improved gameplay mechanics.

The game, which entered its Alpha stage in late 2024, has promised to expand its roster and modes significantly by early 2025. At the forefront of this launch is Aladdin, the first God introduced from the Tales of Arabia pantheon. Designed as a Magical Assassin and Jungler, Aladdin showcases unique abilities, including running on walls and trapping enemies in his mystical lamp.

Returning favorites from the original Smite—such as Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni—will make their debut with reimagined skillsets. By January’s end, Smite 2 plans to feature nearly 50 dynamic Gods, offering players an expanded roster for epic battles.

Smite 2 brings innovative additions to its gameplay:

  • Game Modes:
    • Joust (3v3): Set in an Arthurian-themed map with Teleporters and Stealth Grass, designed to promote ambushes and high-stakes combat.
    • Duel (1v1): A single-lane map crafted for intense, skill-based clashes.
  • Aspects System: Players can customize Gods by trading certain abilities for enhanced boons. For example, Athena can teleport to foes instead of shielding allies, allowing for more aggressive playstyles.
  • Quality-of-Life Improvements:
Role Guides for new players, an upgraded item store, detailed death recaps, PC text chat, and much more are set to make Smite 2 more accessible and engaging.

To celebrate the open beta launch, the first Smite 2 esports tournament finale will be held at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19, 2025. With an ever-growing community and plans for regular updates, Smite 2 is set to make waves in the competitive gaming scene.

Smite 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a steady rollout of new Gods, modes, and balance changes throughout the year.
