Valve’s release of SteamOS will change PC Gaming for good

With a potential drop in around May of 2025, the release of SteamOS will shake PC gaming to the core, allowing plenty of users to experience gaming in a plethora of devices, without having to exclusively rely on Microsoft’s own proprietary services. At Infinite Start we will bring you more details about this development.

What to expect on the release of SteamOS?

One can expect multiple things to happen, but some things are for certain. The Steam Deck itself already garnered a big user base who enjoy being able to game on the go. Thanks to the scalable architecture of said system, its possible to upgrade it to fit the needs of each user, similar to a PC.

But that’s not all, the most important aspect of the Steam Deck is the fact that it comes bundled with a powerful operating system. SteamOS is a distribution of Linux that is optimized around the needs of gamers, who might wish to tackle the latest titles in the market. Thanks to its sleek modifications its able to run miles around the rather slow and outdated Windows 10, without suffering the sudden issues that happen in Windows 11.

Linux distributions tend to adapt to the needs of the user without consuming much power. By doing that, users are able to squeeze the most out of their system without any constraints being place by the Operating System itself. Gamers benefit hugely from these improvements since games are becoming more and more demanding with each release.

Once its released, one can expect Linux to become a more popular alternative, since the market share will substantially increase by the release of SteamOS.

In conclusion

One might think that the release of SteamOS will be locked specifically to portable gaming devices, however, by being Open Source software, it will distribute to more platforms. Users will be able to obtain an ISO directly from Valve to be able to install it directly to their desktop systems.

When this happens, more and more people will start realizing the benefits of operating a more efficient and cutting edge operating system that does not only serve for gaming purposes, but can also be used for day to day tasks. Both gamers and regular users alike will be able to enjoy the full power of any system they have. We at Infinite Start will document and expand upon it on release date.
