Jagex is a very controversial company and handler of the RuneScape IP. Lately, Jagex has infuriated players by doing a survey related to Old School RuneScape. This survey covers various controversial topics about subscription tiers, and even adding in game ads. We at Infinite Start will cover this unfortunate situation that bothers many players.
That’s correct, Jagex is testing waters to see how much cash they can keep extracting from this very old MMO. RuneScape is a very popular MMO RPG that has been going on for decades. Receiving multiple updates with varying degrees of success, however, most players tend to prefer the 2007 version more. It is thought by many players that the newest version of RuneScape, which is reviled by many, exists solely for the purpose to fund 2007 RuneScape.
Unfortunately with the current survey, it seems that Jagex wishes to push 2007 RuneScape into this inescapable hell that modern RuneScape has become. Plans for in game advertisements have been engineered to be added to the beloved version mimicking those of the hated one.
To make matters worse, it was also asked if subscription should have different tiers. With plans of blocking access of certain features of the game depending on price range. One of these changes proposes a membership split. Nowadays, you can use a Bond Item to redeem a subscription to be able to play on both 2007 RuneScape and new RuneScape as a premium user, however they wish to take that away.
The main lobby of the game has been flooding with a bunch of protesters, asking for Jagex to reconsider such greed driven views, only to remain unheard. RuneScape used to be the center to many old internet memes that still resurface from time to time. However, it is possible that this might stain the legacy that one of the oldest MMO’s in the market once held with pride.
