A new rumor indicates that the narrative of Halo 5 was significantly altered by what was formerly known as 343 Industries, Halo Studios, after the reception of Halo 5: Guardians. A roadmap had earlier been established to continue the narrative in Halo 5, but the reaction from Halo fans made it stop altogether with those plans. The abrupt pause left too many character arcs hanging and created an unfinished void between the narratives of Halo 5 and Halo Infinite which even players unfamiliar with the series found quite annoying.
The narrative strategy employed by 343 Industries in the Halo trilogy has sparked much debate among the fanbase. If Halo 4 and Halo 5 looked to impose some form of narrative continuity, Halo Infinite was much more at ease in ignoring the off-screen resolution of plot threads left dangling by Halo 5. This was a direct contrast to Bungie’s original Halo trilogy, which offered a far more self-contained and cohesive narrative arc.
According to Halo insider Rebs Gaming, the discarded roadmap for Halo 5 had more planned for the Guardians in the future of the franchise. But those hopes were dashed by bad fan reaction. Rebs Gaming recently shared that as part of the ongoing discussion on Reddit about how 343 Industries tends to abandon built ideas. They stated, “It is based on negative reactions from Halo fans.”
The shift away from the narrative of Halo 5 leaves many character arcs unfinished. To make matters worse, Halo Infinite introduced new factions and characters, further complicating the possibility of cleverly tying back to any unresolved stories. Considering the backlash over Halo 5’s campaign, it’s possible that Halo Studios would not want to touch those storylines again.
Despite the recent speculation about Halo 5: Guardians being on PC, it was indeed recently debunked. There is still so much more to the franchise; there is very little known what Halo Studios has in store for us now that it has been rebranded. The fans are still hopeful that the studio will revive the series and offer captivating stories through its subsequent installment.
