Grand Theft Auto 5’s Steven Ogg, who played the wildly violent Trevor Philips, one of the three playable protagonists in the game, suggests the idea of his character getting killed off somewhere in the beginning of the upcoming GTA 6. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Ogg who is a well known actor in both the big and small screen, has stated that he wanted a moment that’s similar to Trevor murdering Johnny Klebitz (the protagonist of GTA 4: The Lost and the Damned) not long after his introduction in GTA 5.
“It would be fun if Trevor appeared in it just to be killed at the beginning,” Ogg stated. “I think that would be cool, because it also acknowledges the fans of like, ‘Hey, thank you.’ Pass the torch, stomp Trevor’s head in, and sort of put an end to that and allow a new generation to take over.”
This act of impromptu violence could be carried out by one of the two playable protagonists in the upcoming GTA 6, though they are nowhere near as volatile as Trevor was back in GTA 5. Also, it’s pretty much confirmed that Ogg will not be in GTA 6 so neither will Trevor, though it’s unknown if Rockstar decides to do something else with the character.
It’s important to note that despite showcasing tons of violence by it’s lead characters, the Grand Theft Auto series has also showed the Karmic consequences of those violence on the characters themselves in many small but impactful story beats within the games. The fact that violent lives end violently or the ‘consequences of violence’ theme has been depicted in Rockstar’s games in full detail even outside of the GTA series like in Red Dead Redemption where John Marston gets brutally killed at the end of the game.
And that’s part of what makes the Rockstar games so great and nuanced cause they always reflect back on their characters with the consequences of the choices they made throughout the games. This sort of ‘character study’ aspect of those games are another reason why they are seen as timeless classics, more than just entertaining videogames. And that might be the reason why Ogg wants Trevor to get killed in GTA 6 cause he’s aware that Rockstar could very well show all the acts of violence that Trevor has inflicted throughout GTA 5 finally getting back to him at some point, it’s actually part of the core themes in these games.
GTA 6 is slated to release in fall 2025 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced as of yet.
