Black Ops 6 and Warzone Receiving Cross-Play Disabling Feature in Season 2

Launched to critical acclaim in late October, 2024, Black Ops 6 has since been a standout FPS title in the history of PC shooters. And having an active community of loyal BO6 players, requests for new in-game features, like cross-play disabling, are inevitable. That said, the ability to disable the cross-play feature in Black Ops 6 has been a highly-requested feature in the community as console players were dissapointed with having to meet PC cheaters in the game. And now, Activision has confirmed the cross-play disabling option would be coming to Black Ops 6 and Warzone with the release of the highly anticipated Season 2.

After its release, Black Ops 6 was met with favorable reviews, but that didn’t last long as the game’s Ranked Play mode, which was then newly introduced, was quickly infested with cheaters who seeked easy wins and high ranks in the leaderboard. The cheating issue in the game dragged on for days until the developer devised a patch update to ban a majority of the cheaters. Although players reported lesser cheater sightings in Ranked Play, the patch was barely effective as there were several cases of shadow bans which were supposedly reversed later.

The game has seen a 50% decrease in its overall player base on Steam since its launch, which was likely due to the presence of cheaters and other bugs in the game. With all the cheaters being PC users, console players were dissapointed about being unable to disable the cross-play feature. This caused an all-out backlash on social media and Reddit condemning Treyarch’s responsiveness to BO6’s community.

Due to the massive demand and widespread backlash of console users on the presence of cheaters in the game, Activision has announced it would allow players to disable the cross-play feature in the coming Season 2. With Season 2 being right around the corner, the announcement was received with excitement from console players as it was a much wanted feature.

Activision has clearly taken another huge step towards resolving the isssue with Ranked Play cheaters in Black Ops 6. With several bugs and glitches plaguing both BO6 and Warzone, Activision still has ways to go to completely perfect bith titles. That said, fans are hopeful that the update would be just the beginning of great things for both titles. Aside from the disabling of the cross-play feature, Warzone would feature lots of other content. But it would unfortunately be lesser than originally planned as bug fixes and improvements are the studio’s top priority for now.
