Ubisoft has confirmed that the first expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, titled “Claws of Awaji”, will be free for players who pre-order the game. This clarification comes after recent leaks about the content surfaced online. Ubisoft reassured fans through an official post on their Discord server that pre-order bonuses, including this expansion, remain unchanged.
“Claws of Awaji” introduces a new region—Awaji Island—providing players with over 10 hours of additional gameplay. The expansion will feature a fresh narrative, where players are pursued by a powerful new adversary while searching for a legendary treasure. Additionally, players can expect new gear, skills, and the inclusion of a traditional Japanese staff weapon, the Bō. This expansion promises to extend the immersive experience of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Set in 16th-century Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows tells the story of Yasuke, the first African samurai, and Naoe, a skilled kunoichi ninja. The main game and its expansion aim to combine historical authenticity with the iconic themes of the Assassin’s Creed series. The new content in “Claws of Awaji” will not only explore unique challenges but also introduce deeper connections to the overarching lore.
The decision to provide the expansion as a pre-order incentive reflects Ubisoft’s effort to reward early supporters. Players who pre-order will have automatic access to this bonus content upon the game’s release. This strategy also aligns with Ubisoft’s push to build excitement and a strong player base ahead of the March 20, 2025 launch.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Fans eager for more details can expect further updates as the release date approaches. In the meantime, Ubisoft encourages players to join the discussion and stay updated through the official Assassin’s Creed Discord server.
For those anticipating Assassin’s Creed Shadows, “Claws of Awaji” offers even more reasons to pre-order and prepare for an epic journey through feudal Japan.
