Players were surprised to see a new PlayStation 5 update changed the boot screen to the iconic PlayStation 1 version.
X (formerly Twitter) user Radec posted a brief video showcasing the changes for those who can’t wait to experience them on their home unit.
While the boot screen was a nice touch for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the bigger surprise was Sony finally giving PlayStation 5 themes. These are, unfortunately, only available for a limited time. Ideally this is a fun test of a more fleshed out version in the future.
Available themes represent each console generation, complete with the sounds present on that console. It’s a fantastic tribute that is well worth checking out.
A special thank you video was also released. It features various scenes from a wide variety of PlayStation games.
For those who missed it, Europe also has a special advent calendar promotion going on. Codes do not work in NA, though people across Europe have mentioned they work. This post has all currently available codes for those who don’t want to mess with the website.
