Deep Silver has relinquished publishing control of Shenmue 3, with ININ Games taking the reins. The new publishing home for Shenmue was quick to share the news, while also teasing what’s to come following the transfer.
Following the previous collaboration on Air Twister, this will deepen the relationship between ININ Games and YS NET. Known for their commitment to celebrating beloved titles, ININ Games is excited to shepherd Shenmue III into its next phase.
However, it’s the next part that has raised eyebrows in anticipation of the publisher’s impending plans.
This collaboration marks the beginning of a new chapter for Shenmue III, with ININ Games working closely alongside YS NET to honor the series’ legacy while ensuring its accessibility to even more fans around the world.
Given that Shenmue 3 is currently only available on PlayStation 4 (and, by extension, PlaySation 5) and PC, which followed a Guinness World Record-scoring Kickstarter in 2015, the talk of greater accessibility could be hinting at Xbox and Switch ports. We’re now five years out from its original release, and I’m sure there are those that have been waiting patiently for the past half-decade to continue Ryo Hazuki’s saga.
We’ll have to wait and see what ININ Games has planned, and if Ys Net will ever give us Shenmue 4. Keep an eye out as we head into the new year for any less vague details that slip out of the new publisher.
