Sony confirmed the changes in Official News were unintended, and have been resolved.
For those unaware, several users noticed a number of PlayStation 5 games were showing ads on the Home Screen. This unexpected change resulted in a fair amount of confusion, and frustration due to the inconsistency of what was being highlighted.
One user reported Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla was highlighting its crossover with Destiny 2. Said crossover released in Dec. 2022, making it extremely out of date. Another reported Elden Ring was showing an advertisement for a mouse pad, which is expected to release later this year.
Despite the obvious concerns, several people saw the potential in this change. In the case of Helldivers 2 it highlighted the Poisonous Premium Warbond that released on Sept. 19. This is something several developers already do, like MultiVersus highlighted the recent third season, and Destiny has changed it with every new expansion.
Regardless of where you fall it’s nice to see these concerns promptly addressed.
