Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the Until Dawn remake for PS5 and PC, has announced significant layoffs ahead of the game’s release. The UK-based company, founded by former Supermassive Games developers, shared the news through a statement on their LinkedIn page, stating that the decision was necessary to “secure the future” of the studio.
The studio’s statement read: “As the games industry continues to face complex challenges, we at Ballistic Moon are confronted with some difficult realities. It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that we must make the tough decision to significantly scale down our team to secure the future of our studio.” Ballistic Moon further expressed its gratitude to the affected employees, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
This announcement comes just a month before the Until Dawn remake’s launch on October 4, 2024. Despite the restructuring, Ballistic Moon remains committed to supporting the game’s release and exploring future opportunities and collaborations.
The layoffs are surprising given that they occurred before the game’s release, a time when studios typically aim to maintain or increase staff to manage a game’s launch. This has led to speculation about potential issues within the company or concerns about the game’s quality.
