Released last February with not much expectations, Helldivers 2 has become one of this year’s biggest hits, selling over 12 million copies on PS5 and PC. However, the game faced challenges due to controversial decisions by Arrowhead Game Studios, which drove away many players during the summer. The situation has now improved significantly, with the community returning to the game.
A few months ago, many Helldivers 2 players complained about the increasing difficulty of missions, which were made more frustrating by continuous nerfs to weapons and armor considered “too effective.” Despite the release of the free update Escalation of Freedom, things didn’t get better. Now, with the September patch, there have been real improvements, bringing back a substantial number of players.
The latest update to Helldivers 2 has enhanced the effectiveness of various weapons such as the auto cannon, heavy machine gun, and flamethrower. Meanwhile, the strength of several enemy types, including the Hulk, Devastator, and Cannonier, has been reduced. Even headshot damage has been cut by 50%.
These changes have won over the fanbase, pushing the game back to over 100,000 concurrent active players, numbers not seen since last spring. Reviews have also improved, now more positive.
It’s great to see Helldivers 2 making a strong comeback after a rough patch. If you’ve taken a break from the game, now could be the perfect time to dive back in and see how much it’s changed.
