Behaviour Interactive has announced its acquisition of Red Hook Studios, the talented team behind the hit titles Darkest Dungeon and Darkest Dungeon II. This move is a significant step in Behaviour’s ambitious goal to establish itself as a leading name in the horror game genre.
Earlier this year, Behaviour Interactive experienced some turbulence, with layoffs and the cancellation of Project T, a spin-off of Dead by Daylight. Despite these setbacks, the company is clearly focused on expansion and evolution. The acquisition of Red Hook Studios, which has sold over seven million copies of its acclaimed roguelike RPG series, reflects this strategic growth.
Rémi Racine, Co-Founder and CEO of Behaviour Interactive, expressed his excitement about the acquisition: “It’s a privilege to welcome a developer of Red Hook’s caliber. Earlier this year, we established an ambitious goal for our future as a publisher—to make Behaviour synonymous with horror, and surround Dead by Daylight with a library of similarly exceptional horror games. Our acquisition of Red Hook is another emphatic step towards this objective, with more to come.”
Red Hook Studios will continue to operate independently with its 29 team members. Chris Bourassa, Co-Founder of Red Hook, sees this partnership as a way to elevate their work: “We’ve found kindred spirits in the Behaviour team. Their support will help us pursue our vision for Red Hook’s future, and focus fully on transforming Darkest Dungeon into an absolute juggernaut of the dark fantasy genre.”
