Lost Boys Interactive, a studio owned by Embracer Group, has laid off more employees due to ongoing changes in the gaming industry. Known for their work on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Diablo IV, and PUBG, the studio has been facing difficult decisions. On September 6, 2024, they announced via LinkedIn that they had “made the very difficult decision to reduce overall headcount.”
Shaun Nivens, CEO of Lost Boys Interactive, explained, “We recognize the impact of this decision on our team members… this action was taken only after considering all other options.” The layoffs are attributed to shifts in the market, with the studio adapting to meet the changing needs of its development clients.
This round of layoffs is the second this year. Earlier, the studio had already reduced its workforce by 125 employees. While the exact number of those affected by the recent layoffs remains unknown, estimates suggest the total number of jobs lost in the gaming industry in 2024 could exceed 12,000.
Lost Boys Interactive continues to focus on delivering high-quality services to their partners, despite these challenges. They have promised to support affected employees as they transition out of the company. As the gaming industry evolves, layoffs have become more common, with an estimated 10,500 jobs lost in 2023.
