The critically acclaimed developer of Ori and the Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps, Moon Studios, is readying the debut of their next game, and it’s initial iteration is almost upon us. The highly anticipated mature, dark aRPG No Rest for the Wicked will be entering Steam Early Access in a few short days.
Moon Studios broke the news with a beautifully grim trailer that shows off the visceral action in the team’s self-described “bold new take on the genre.” Players can get their first taste of this genre-changing direction for the very first time starting this Thursday, April 18th.
Keep in mind that content and features will be limited at the very beginning of No Rest for the Wicked‘s Early Access development. Only the first chapter will be playable at launch and features such as multiplayer (both co-op and PvP) are coming with later updates, according to the roadmap, but a firm timeline for those major updates is not yet available. Buying in during the Early Access period will award players with bonus in-game gear in the form of Cerim armor.
If you want to know more about No Rest for the Wicked, give it’s narrative overview a read:
The year is 841 – King Harol is dead. As word of his death echoes throughout the kingdom, the crown passes to his arrogant, yet untested son Magnus.
Even worse, the Pestilence, an unholy plague not seen for a thousand years, has returned. It sweeps across the land, corrupting everything and everyone it touches. Madrigal Seline, a ruthlessly ambitious figure in the church, sees the Pestilence as a chance to prove herself in the eyes of her god.
These forces converge on the backwater Isola Sacra, where rebel groups and the provincial government fight for control amid the isle’s crumbling ruins.
You are a Cerim – a member of a group of mystical holy warriors imbued with remarkable powers and sworn to defeat the Pestilence at any cost. But the task will prove increasingly challenging as you become entangled in the people’s plight and the vast political struggle of this downtrodden land. Chaos will pull you in every direction as you seek to cleanse the land of wickedness and shape the kingdom’s fate.
