The cult classic Shadows of the Damned from Grasshopper Manufacture was announced as the latest recipient of an impending remaster. The news broke in mid-2023 and we have been on standby since for more details pertaining to Garcia Hotspur’s campy, and often raunchy, horror-adjacent third-person shooter.
For those that don’t remember this underrated title (in my humble opinion), Shadows of the Damned brought together Suda51, former director of Resident Evil Shinji Mikami, and former composer for Silent Hill Akira Yamaoka. Needless to say, the amount of talent packed into this game is immense. And while Shadows of the Damned didn’t go on to win a plethora of awards or a top spot among aggregate review websites, it did find a home among a dedicated fan base that has longed to see its return, especially since the title was delisted in 2021.
The day of its return is nearing, and it feels closer than ever thanks to the news that the game has received an official title and impending demo. Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, as it’s called, will be playable by the general public for the first time at PAX East this week. Grasshopper Manufacture made the announcement on Twitter, now known as X, accompanied by a brand-new trailer.
Even if you can’t make it to PAX East, you can check out how Hotspur’s glow-up is looking below.
