Valve Announces Steam Deck OLED; Releases November 16

Valve surprised players by announcing Steam Deck OLED, which includes a wide variety of improvements beyond an OLED display.

Steam Deck OLED will come in 512GB, or 1TB NVMe SSD. The 1TB version also boasts a premium anti-glare etched glass screen, upgraded case with removable liner, exclusive startup movie and keyboard.

Both models also feature a number of improvements over the previous LCD models. These include 6 nm APU, 7.4″ display size, Wi-Fi 6E, an estimated battery life range of 3 to 12 hours, plus a 2.5 mm cable. The expanded specs go on to mention 16GB LPDDR5 now having 6400 MT/s over the previous 5500 MT/s, plus Bluetooth 5.3 instead of 5.0. Steam Deck OLED also weighs roughly 640 grams; a decrease of approximately 29 grams.

To help with the transition, Valve is offering the now discontinued 64GB and 512GB LCD versions at a heavy discount. This does not apply to the 256GB version that is now considered the entry level unit. Based off the pricing, anyone interested in the LCD version should strongly consider one of these models as they’re priced to move. Their Steam Deck dock was also permanently discounted to $79.

Those interested will be able to purchase the 512GB version for $549, or upgrade to 1TB for $649. Valve is also offering a limited edition of the 1TB version for $679. It comes in a delightful translucent black color pictured above. All three versions will be available for preorder on Nov. 16 at 10am PST.
