Sony Finally Reveals Heavily Rumored PlayStation 5 Redesign

After countless rumors Sony has finally revealed their redesigned PlayStation 5 with the intriguing detachable disc drive.

This version boasts a decrease of 18 and 24 percent weight, with volume seeing a reduction of over 30 percent. In addition to a more pleasing form factor and 1TB SSD, the new PlayStation 5 boasts a somewhat modular design that allows players to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for an additional $79.99, €1119.99, £99.99, ¥11,980.

To allow for this, the panels are now four pieces instead of the previous two, with a different bottom that allows for the disc drive. It’s a clever way to address this concern, even if it potentially limits future console designs from working with both generations.

Those interested will be able to purchase this version in Nov. from a wide variety of retail partners.

Since the design is somewhat different, Sony is also including a new stand with these models. All units will include a simplified horizontal stand, which based off images looks a lot easier to install. However, the vertical stand will be an additional $29.99, €29.99, £24.99, ¥3,980 purchase.
