E3 2023 Officially Cancelled

The Electronic Software Association (ESA) and ReedPop have confirmed E3 2023 is no longer happening.

While the e-mail we received was short, and to the point, sources close to IGN got a more expansive explanation of the situation.

Following IGN’s report, the ESA issued the following public statement from Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming, ReedPop:

This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.

IGN

News of E3’s cancellation likely doesn’t come as much of a shock, given there was rampant speculation the event would not occur. Over the months this speculation continued to grow as Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Sega, Tencent, and most recently Devolver Digital would not attend.

Despite many assuming this is the end of the event, IGN reports their press release mentions “future E3 events.” Our press release was a little different with “Please keep an eye on http://e3expo.com for any further updates to E3″ at the very end. Whether this means something or not, it’s possible the event might find new life as something different in the future.
