The Last of Us Renewed for Season Season 1

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed HBO has elected to renew the breakout hit, The Last of Us.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as the series currently has a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, holds the number one in terms of popularity on IMDB, and is the second most watched HBO premiere in the last decade.

Executive Producer, Neil Druckmann, added the following statement about the news.

I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey.

The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two!

Showrunner, Craig Mazin, also issued the following comment.

I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey.

The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.

No plans were revealed for the following season, but there are hints it will unsurprisingly explore The Last of Us Part II.

For those unsure if the series can live up to the hype, HBO released the first episode for free.
