How to Defeat the God of the Fools in Thymesia

Unlike a lot of games, Thymesia tries a lot of different ideas with their bosses. Instead of being a traditional fight, God of the Fools is a mechanic-heavy race to kill it. The good news is that this fight doesn’t require anything different from the average stage, but it will be stressful for some players. This guide will help a lot, though, given the mechanics, you might want to check out our video guide for this one.

How to Defeat the God of the Fools in Thymesia

General Tips

Four tips are always good to remember in Thymesia. The first is that Talents can be freely reset, or single choices can be unlearned to change your build on the fly. This makes some bosses easier than just getting past certain bothersome enemies. Another is that weapon shards increase Plague Weapon power, making them useful if you want to rely on them.

In the item menu under general, items are called Collection of Memories. These start at level one and give 100 memory shards per use, with the level two version giving 500. These are great for leveling fast or quickly gaining access to another skill or ability without risking your life for shards.

Finally, I want to touch on potions, as this impacts all aspects of Thymesia. I beat everything with the General Potion, but there are use cases for the other two. These are subjective, but the order you upgrade potions is not. I would say quantity is the most crucial category, followed by recovery and crafting. The only thing to keep in mind is total health. If the potion heals more than your current HP or when you’ll likely use it, consider getting the craft upgrades.

As for crafting, these use random drops that have various effects. These ingredients are permanent, meaning there is no risk in using them in a potion or just picking specific useful effects. I found Black Pepper, Garlic, and Basil, which gives Warming Up (damage increased by 10 percent), the most useful, but there is a case that can be made for each of them.

Set Up

Since this stage is mostly against regular enemies, I suggest using the Talents Growing Feathers, Full Winged, Plagued Wounds, and Healing Execution. For Plague Weapons, you want the Bow and Twin Swords, but if you lack these, Halberd and Flying Daggers do an okay job.

Fighting The God of the Fools

Believe it or not, this is an oddly straightforward fight. The basic idea is to alternate between objectives and go to the side to fight enemies/avoid attacks.

Floor One

The first floor starts with a cyst, which can quickly be killed with Feathers, followed by a safe section to the left. Go there, kill the three enemies, wait for the boss to slide his hand across the floor, and run to the next cyst. Kill that with your Feathers, move back to the left and kill the five or so enemies waiting there.

Floor Two

After climbing the ladder, kill the three enemies and rush to the safe space to the right. Kill the enemy there and the one on the existing walkway. Wait for the boss to be clear and then run the rest of the way, kill the cyst, and finally move to the right. Defeat the handful of enemies and two stronger ones, heal, and dash to the next area to the right. Kill the enemy there, likely the one on the walkway, and wait for the boss to attack. Typically, it makes a few moves before ending with three punches, which is your cue to run. Repeat the process by killing it and moving to the right. There will be a couple of enemies and a Flying Dagger elite enemy. This enemy is super easy if you have the Bow, so hit her with that, claw, and repeat until she dies. Kill the remaining enemies and decide what you want to do.

If you go south, there is a small section with a cyst you can attack. Killing it will make that area safe, making it possible to get the collectible by either rushing down the path or falling from the third hole above. Just go above for those not interested in collectibles, trophies, or achievements.

Floor Three

A small number of enemies will be waiting for you by the cyst. Use Feathers or the Bow to lure them to you and kill them. Destroy the cyst and head up the ladder.

Floor Four

You just need to make it to the other side for the last section. This is pretty easy; the holes alternate from left to right, with no enemies to stop you. Once on the other side, trigger the boss, do the finisher, and you’re done.
