The hardest part of getting into any soul-like title is learning how to defeat each boss. Sometimes this is all about dodging, other times pure offense, with Odur in Thymesia coming down to your ability to parry. This can seem intimidating to some, but it isn’t impossible with the right tactic.
There are four tips that are always good to remember in Thymesia. The first is that Talents can be freely reset or single choices can be unlearned to change your build on the fly. This makes some of the bosses a lot easier or just getting past certain bothersome enemies. Another is that weapon shards increase Plague Weapon power, making them useful if you want to rely on them.
In the item menu under general there are items called Collection of Memories. These start at level one and give 100 memory shards per use, with the level two version giving 500. These are great for leveling fast or quickly gaining access to another skill or ability without risking your life for shards.
Finally, I want to touch on potions, as this is something that impacts all aspects of Thymesia. I personally beat everything with the General Potion, but there are use cases for the other two. These are subjective, but the order you upgrade potions is not. I would say quantity is the most important category, followed by recovery and then crafting. The only thing to keep in mind is total health. If the potion heals more than your current HP or when you’ll likely use it, consider getting the craft upgrades.
As for crafting, these use random drops that have various effects. These ingredients are permanent, meaning there is no risk in using them in a potion or just picking certain useful effects. I personally found Black Pepper, Garlic and Basil, which gives Warming Up (damage increased by 10 percent) the most useful, but there is a case that can be made for each of them.
Going into this fight I found the best Plague Weapons were either the Halberd or Flying Daggers. Out of the two I would say the Halberd is the better weapon, which should also unlock through normal play, but there is a strong case to be made for the Flying Daggers. These are like additional feathers that do a fair amount of damage without much risk. If you didn’t find these, there is a hidden path near the save space before the boss that has an optional high powered enemy that will give you the resources upon her defeat.
As for Talents, well, this is a fight where reflecting attacks is the best way to do damage. As a result, I strongly suggest investing in the deflect skill tree. Your goal should be either Reckless Deflect or Precise Deflect, which are the third skills on the left side. As for which to use, that comes down to how well you parry enemy attacks. Reckless Deflect gives a fairly generous window to use it, making it a lot easier for low skilled players or those who want to minimize risk to make quick work of Odur. However, if you’re confident in your ability to deflect, additional damage is better.
Beyond deflect skills I would suggest Long Claw, along with Plague Wounds to increase the amount of time before he heals. If you’re really high level, it also helps to have Feather talents to prevent Odur from healing.
Odur’s first phase is rather basic. He will try to catch you off guard, so you want to deflect as many attacks as possible. Most of these follow a pretty basic loop, with one of his later attacks adding an additional quick slash. As long as you’re on him and actively removing his health, it should go pretty fast.
During this phase he is a little more hostile, but overall not that different. The best tactic is to bait him, deflect his attacks and then punish with your claw. As long as you don’t get too greedy he should die relatively fast.
