Sony announced that they will remove the rarely used Accolades system from PlayStation 5 this Fall.
This was revealed as part of an important notice, which reads as follows:
Accolades on PS5 consoles
In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.
Sony
If you, understandably, never heard of this system, it was a very rarely used feature that allowed players to report positive behaviors that was then reflected on your PlayStation Network account. These include being helpful, showing leadership, welcoming people or just being positive in general.
It was a great concept in theory, the issue was the lack of support and later understanding of the feature. The only games I recall playing that supported it were Back 4 Blood and Destruction AllStars, which really goes to show how under utilized the feature is.
Beyond removing the feature, no word was given on how Sony will use the space on PlayStation Network profiles or if something will replace it like the recently announced PlayStation Stars program.
