Rumblings began this morning claiming that DICE’s massively anticipated Battlefield 2042 would see a delay, missing its October launch date. Swirling rumors quickly turned into an announcement, as DICE took to Twitter to make the news official.
DICE CEO Oskar Gabrielson spoke on behalf of the Battlefield dev team, confirming the delay but also quelling concerns that we wouldn’t be seeing the game until 2022. Here’s what Gabrielson had to say on the matter:
We’ve made the decision to shift the launch of Battlefield 2042. The game will now be released worldwide on November 19th, 2021.
Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.
Your enthusiasm for the game has been very inspiring. We believe in the game we’re making, and we thank you for your patience as we put some finishing touches into the experience.
Updates on the Open Beta will be coming later this month

Fortunately, the delay is minor. Fans eager for Battlefield’s return to form need only wait an additional month before they are able to navigate a tornado via wingsuit in near-future warfare.
For now, we can hold on to the fact that we will be hearing more details about Battlefield 2042‘s open beta before the month is over. A brief stint in a pre-release version of the FPS should help break up the added downtime nicely.
It’s worth point out that the situation could have been worse. The rumors circling social media earlier stated that we would be looking at much more than a one month setback. It wouldn’t be all too surprising either, given how many notable 2021 titles have found themselves pushed into 2022 due to development obstacles arising over the past year and a half. God of War: Ragnarok sits as a notable example, with Dying Light 2 being the most recent victim to find itself outside of 2021.
Barring any further disruptions, Battlefield 2042 will release on November 19th on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
