Microsoft to publish ‘future iterations’ of The Outer Worlds

In a statement given to Gamasutra by Private Division, it has been revealed that Microsoft will be publishing any “future iterations” within The Outer Worlds franchise.

When Microsoft purchased Obsidian back in 2018, The Outer Worlds developer was already working with Take Two’s subsidiary Private Division to publish the game. From the release of the game up to the last expansion that debuted a few months ago, The Murder of Eridanos, Private Division remains as the publisher and will continue to do so until they have released the Switch version of the last expansion.

“Private Division is still supporting and marketing The Outer Worlds, including the upcoming release of Murder on Eridanos DLC on Nintendo Switch,” said the company to Gamastura. “Moving forward, Obsidian and Microsoft will be publishing future iterations in the franchise, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see where they take it.”

With Microsoft taking charge of the franchise after the last expansion has been released on Nintendo Switch, it means that the next The Outer Worlds franchise will most likely be an Xbox exclusive.

The Outer Worlds is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. An enhancement patch was released for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S allowing the game to run up to 60 frames per second.
